Drum Lessons

Why hello there. So in the past few days I've had 2 girls ask me to teach them to play drums, Ashley and Kady. I gave Ashley her first lesson on Friday and it went pretty well. I got her to play basic rock and some jazz. I also tried to get her to think about some ideas behind playing drums like, knowing when to not play which I think is one of the hardest lessons for dummers to learn. I think she's coming along pretty well and next time ill try to have her play along with some cds or something. You know, get her use to playing with a band behind her. She said she had a blast playing and she was singing the beat she learned for like 30min after we stopped.

The other girl who has asked me to teach her a bit is Kady. I can't remember exactly when I met her but I can only guess it was months ago and it was through Liesl. Like me, she is taking French and attends The Village Church. She doesn't hang out in Kharma as much as she use to but I still end up seeing her once or twice a week or so. Shes 20 and has a few years left here at school. Anyway, I ran into her at Kharma tonight and she said she has always wanted to learn to play drums and thought, "hmm who do I know who plays...Patrick plays, maybe he'll teach me." Yes, yes I will. Unlike Ashley, I dont think shes had any experience in music before so I'm not quite sure how to approach her abilities. Ashley played percussion all through high school so I kinda got a jist for where she was at, but with Kady I suppose I'll just sit her down and ask her to play a beat and see what happens. Who knows, maybe she'll be really good and just blow me away.

I joked with Travis earlier that I should start charging for lessons if word gets out I'm teaching people how to play. Man that would be cool. Getting paid for teaching people how to play drums...awesome.
