Alright, so I've been using android for nearly a year now with my Galaxy S3 and today was the first major iOS update since then. I still have an iPad so I've been able to see both sides and the differences between both of them. One thing really stood out today and if I were to buy a new phone today It would probably make me go back to an iPhone... Updates. Over two dozen of my iPad apps were updated on THE DAY of a major OS release. Many of them got major redesigns and are taking advantage of new system features. On android I'm forced to wait several months for Samsung to make an update, then wait several more months to see if Verizon ever approves it. By that time another android OS update has been released and the process starts over before the last cycle even finished! Or I can root (hack) my phone and get the latest OS update but give up the few Samsung features I actually do like. And that still doesn't mean any of the developers of the apps I use will EVER support the latest OS updates. It's like playing the game of least common denominator for app features. It's craziness. I still have another year under contract so I don't plan on giving up my S3 and there are many things I love about android (customization), but today totally showed the strength of Apples incredibly powerful ecosystem of a fiercely loyal developer community. Unfortunately that's something I'm afraid android can never match because it's designed to be to complex (open).
